Caring for our Planet

Pope Francis calls for a change in lifestyle and consumption. Care for creation must stand together with care for the poor:
Pope Francis, Laudato Sí
The Bible begins with stories of God and creation (Genesis 1-2) while the final chapters reflect on the new heaven and the new earth. (Revelations 21-22).

“The ecological crisis,” Pope Francis writes in Laudate Si “is a summons to profound interior conversion – to renew our relationships with God, one another and the created world.” (217)
But ask the animals and they shall teach you; the birds of the sky, and they shall tell you. Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach you.” Job 12:7-9

Care of the earth is a wake-up call as we are invited to recognize our interconnectedness with all of creation. Pope Francis in “Laudato Si” crystallises for us the level of responsibility we need to take.

"Climate change is a global problem with grave implications: environmental, social, economic, political and for the distribution of goods. It represents one of the principal challenges facing humanity in our day."
Pope Francis, Laudato Sí
