In Oswestry our Mission has taken on a new dimension. We are no longer in a leadership role in the Parish school but a Sister works in a school supporting children who have particular educational needs. A weekly prayer group is well established in the Convent and much appreciated by the parish community. Children attending non Catholic schools also receive instruction in the Faith from the Sisters. A Sister is currently teaching English to the recently appointed Parish Priest who has come from India.
One of the Sisters is the grateful owner of a handsome, gentle black Labrador which she walks twice a day in neighbouring fields and lanes. It is amazing how many people pause and chat, initially to admire the dog and thereafter share some news, comment about current affairs or share some concern. These are people with whom she would not in the normal course of events have contact. They have got to know who Sister is and what she does. Just another way of reaching out to others!
