First Sunday of Advent
On November 28th four young women attended a Day of Reflection at St. Paul’s Convent, Selly Park. The day was an opportunity to have time and space to reflect and pray on the theme of Advent and also to connect and share with one another.
Candle reflection
After joining the Selly Park Community for Mass and morning coffee, time was spent together reflecting on the theme of Advent and on ways we could personally prepare for the season of Advent. After a period of guided reflection, we were invited to symbolise our own personal hopes and expectations for Advent 2010, by decoratinga candle with images depicting our hopes and expectations. It was most enjoyable and meaningful working with the candle materials and then sharing our hope and expectations together as a group.
Lectio Divina- “Stay Awake”
The Sunday Gospel for week one of Advent from Matthew 24: 37-44 was our inspiration for Lectio Divina together in the afternoon. Upon reflecting on the Gospel, we were constantly reminded how the word of God was so alive and active in our every day lives.
Hospitality
The Selly Park Community was as warm and welcoming as ever, giving their time and presence whenever they met the young women throughout the day.
Gratitude
At the end of the day, although the young women realised they had given up valuable study time to attend the day, they discovered having space and time to reflect, pray and share throughout the day, reaped great benefits and rewards.
