Come and See Day

Selly Park

17thSeptember 20111

On the 17 September 2011 Selly Park opened its doors to ten enthusiastic young women aged 17-18 who had generously given up their Saturday to discover more about the Sisters of St. Paul and to spend the day in prayer and reflection deepening their relationship with God, self and others.

The day began with greetings and hospitality as we waited for the gradual arrival of the young woman, some of whom had commitments earlier in the morning. This linked in very appropriately with the Gospel sharing of the day which centered on the workers in the vineyard arriving at different times and yet felt accepted just as they were.

Mt 20: 1-16

The first reflection of the day began with “Everyday God” from Bernadette Farrell reminding us all that God is in all things. We also reflected on how our everyday God was fully present throughout the founding history of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Paul the Apostle.

The young women heard how the Congregation began with just three faithful young women who were open to hearing the invitation of God in their lives and responded with great zeal and enthusiasm to helping the poor and teaching young children in their care.

The rest of the day included a tour of the convent and an opportunity to meet with the wider community of sisters.

The day concluded with the sharing of the Gospel for Sunday 18thSeptember from Mt 20: 1-16. Lectio Divina reminded us that God is indeed in our everyday experiences.
