Come and See More

Come and See More.

St Paul’s Convent, Selly Park, Birmingham

Friday 7th May – Saturday 8th May 2010

The weekend was attended by three young women. We began by warmly welcoming them to Selly Park.

The evening consisted of a beautiful meal which was warmly received by all. After the meal we had a walk around Selly Park gardens which were looking very beautiful with the blossom trees in full bloom.

An introduction to Lectio Divina was given and we reflected on the Sunday Gospel. This particular form of prayer was met with much enthusiasm by the young women; they requested the possibility of meeting again for Lectio Divina. Plans are being put into place to start a Lectio Divina group.

Songs of praise followed our time of prayer. We were accompanied by one of the young women who had brought her guitar.

Saturday morning, we joined the Community for Mass and after Mass we had coffee in the library with the sisters. The community made the young women feel so much at home and they stayed on for some time chatting with many of the sisters.

A tour of Selly Park was given. This was followed by the sharing of our vocation stories and our Congregational story. Much interest was shown and many questions were asked around our calling to religious life.

After dinner we made our way to Cannon Hill Park for coffee.

It proved to be a very good weekend and the young women were so appreciative of the welcome and the hospitality that they had received from all the sisters in Selly Park. They really enjoyed their time and were glad to have had time for quiet and relaxation as they begin to prepare for their exams.
