The Mission of St. Paul
The Mission of St. Paul
Paul was very aware that he had a mission to the Gentiles.
We find him travelling through the countries round the Mediterranean, in the Greek world, bearing hardships of every kind (he mentions some in Col. 11) in order that “Christ’s message may live in our hearts.” In the opening words of his letter to the Romans he tells us he is “a servant of Christ Jesus” chosen to preach the Good News. Without question that is what he did. We owe him a big debt.
The world of Paul is little different from ours. We experience the same war and peace, greed and generosity, bravery and cowardice. Although his letters were to the Churches he founded, his message is applicable to us today. He puts before us the fact that “God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts” so we can say “Abba, Father” in the secure knowledge that we are the sons and daughters of God.
