Visit of the Relics of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque and
St. Claude de la Colombiere to Liverpool
The arrival of the relics of St. Margaret Mary and St. Claude to the parish of St. Margaret Mary in Knotty Ash, Liverpool, late in November was a great event not only for the parish but for the Liverpool Archdiocese. There had been a whole week of events hosted by the Jesuits in London prior to their arrival in Liverpool.
I am called after St. Margaret Mary but have not yet been able to visit her home in Paray-le- Monial. I was not sure about how I felt about seeing her relics but was moved, not by the presence of the relics themselves but by the fact that, along with all those present, I was reminded of how important her love of God was, not only to her but to those of us who have followed in her footsteps. St. Margaret Mary’s devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus was something very personal but also one that she was told to share with others, which she did.
It is important to remember that God loves us so much.
In praying before the Blessed Sacrament, in the presence of the relics of these two great saints, one couldn’t help but feel closer to God.
