Final Profession of Sister Alina Husariu
3rd September 2011

Having spent some time in Selly Park during the summer, Alina was finally ready for the 3rd September 2011, a day which will always be very special for her. With the ceremony in Onesti this time other than in the usual place, Campulung, it brought its own challenges but none which were too problematic.Onesti is in the “more Catholic” part of the country and nearer to Alina’s family. The day dawned a little dull but as we neared 11 o’clock, the sun was shining brightly matching the tangible joy, happiness and excitement.
As we processed into church Alina appeared relaxed and recollected but probably would have loved another companion just then. She suddenly realized she had no tissues but these were duly produced and we continued the procession to the foot of the altar where a large number of priests were gathered including Monseigneur Alois Fechet who was to conduct the ceremony as the bishop had another engagement that day.The choir was in full voice, the servers knew what to do, the congregation – including Sisters Kathleen, Jean, Ann, Jackie, Mary Lyons, all the sisters of St Paul living in Romania and many members of Alina’s family and friends were in place and the awaited liturgy began. This was beautifully prepared by the Sisters themselves. After a very encouraging homily, during which Monseigneur Alois addressed Alina, thanked her family for their generosity and example and congratulated the Congregation on its achievements in Romania, the solemn moment had arrived.

Alina stepped forward to make her perpetual commitment to God as a Sister of St Paul.As we prayed and thanked God for Alina, most probably each sister present remembered her own profession day and renewed her vows during this most sacred moment.
Then Monseigneur Alois placed the ring on Alina’s finger and Sister Kathleen presented her with a lighted candle reminding her of our mission to spread the light of Christ as we journey in his name.

There was time for congratulations and photographs after we all processed out of church. The spacious grounds round the church in Onesti made this task easy.We all enjoyed a delicious meal in the school / parish hall which included many home produce and was prepared by the sisters, parishioners and caters. There were great conversations in combinations of Romanian and English but we all were able to make ourselves understood.

The day ended with a dance in the community room. All celebrations in Romania include dancing. We learned new steps, remembered those previously learned and had a great time celebrating being together. The hosts did a great job in finding beds for us all. Most sisters departed on Sunday afternoon to prepare for “Monday morning”.

We thank those who made long journeys, those who helped in the many preparations (that means all of us) and a special thanks to the sisters in Onesti for coordinating this very memorable weekend.

The final word is to Alina herself as we say thank you for your commitment to journey with us in the Lord’s name and for the opportunity to celebrate.
La Multi Ani! Alina
