"Come and See" 5th-6th March 2011

“Journey into Lent”

Selly Park

The “Come and See” event at Selly Park was led by Bernadette, Ann, Margaret and Kate. Fourteen young women joined us on Saturday while ten stayed overnight.

Discernment

The theme of the weekend was “Journey into Lent”. We spent time reflecting, praying and sharing our experiences on the theme of journey, discernment and Lent.

A Lenten Journey

The group was invited to reflect on the stages of discernment in their own life’s journey.

We shared our vocation stories and invited the group to ask any questions they had about Religious Life.

Lectio Divina

In preparation for Lent we prayed Lectio Divina together, reflecting on the Gospel reading for Ash Wednesday and also began preparing our own Lenten Calendar to help keep us focussed on the meaning of Lent.

On Saturday evening we had a social event together with guitars and soft drinks.

Chatting together The Sisters chat

After Mass on Sunday, we joined the Selly Park community for coffee in the library. This was a wonderful opportunity for the young women to meet our Sisters and listen to their experiences of ministry and community.

Sunday was also an opportunity for quiet time for reflection and also to gently prepare the young women to return to their everyday lives.

Sr. Kathleen Neenan, our Congregational Leader, met with the group in the afternoon and thanked them for responding to the invitation to attend the “Come and See” weekend. She also thanked the Sisters who had prepared the weekend.

The young women commented on the hospitality and kindness of all the Sisters throughout the whole weekend.

We would like to extend our own gratitude to all the Sisters in Selly Park who made the weekend so enjoyable and memorable.

A group gathering

Some comments about the weekend from the young women who attended:

“I enjoyed everything, reflections, stories and the social. I enjoyed every minute.”

“Very informative, you could go at your own pace.”

“I enjoyed the Lectio Divina.”

“I enjoyed the quiet times and exposition, also having time to talk privately to the Sisters.”

“I enjoyed the company of four different Sisters with four different backgrounds, talents, and qualities, but one call -inspirational.”

We will be arranging more “Come and See” Days throughout 2011.
